North Arkansas Regional Medical Center Laboratory Services Receives Accreditation from College of American Pathologists

HARRISON, AR – North Arkansas Regional Medical Center’s Laboratory Services team has been awarded accreditation by the College of American Pathologists Accreditation Committee based on results of a recent on-site inspection. Recognized for rigorous and robust standards, CAP accreditation elevates quality and mitigates risk, an important way that laboratories can contribute to improved patient outcomes.

NARMC’s Laboratory Services director, Rachel Mullins, MHA, MSHI, MB(ASCP)cm, was advised of this global recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the services being provided. NARMC Laboratory Services is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

“The CAP accreditation process represents the gold standard for laboratory certification under CLIA. Patients should feel confident that their testing at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center is performed in a laboratory that has successfully passed an accreditation process reflecting the highest level of scrutiny and quality standards,” said Dr. Phillip Ferguson, Laboratory Medical Director.

NARMC’s Chief Operating Officer, Josh Bright, PharmD, FACHE, upon learning of the laboratory’s accreditation, said: “This recognition reflects the dedication, teamwork, and professionalism our laboratory staff demonstrate every day. We are especially proud of the leadership provided by our Director of Laboratory Services, Rachel Mullins, and grateful to every member of the pathology and laboratory medicine team for their commitment to quality care and service to our community.”

During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management. These reviews help verify activities and reflect the most recent best practices.

With over 23,000 laboratory participants, in addition to accreditation, the CAP offers proficiency testing/external quality assessment (PT/EQA) programs, quality improvement tools, and cancer protocols and evidence-based guidelines to ensure excellence in all areas across the laboratory. Built on a foundation of pathologist expertise, the College of American Pathologists (CAP) partners with laboratories worldwide to elevate the quality of laboratory medicine with best-in-class solutions designed to drive operational excellence, achieve diagnostic confidence, and ensure the best patient care.
