At North Arkansas Regional Medical Center (NARMC), we are proud to offer our patients access to the most advanced surgical care through the skill and expertise of our highly trained surgeons. With the addition of the Da Vinci XI Robotic Surgery System, we are equipping our medical team with the most cutting-edge tools available to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.
Robotic surgery at NARMC isn’t about replacing surgeons with technology—it’s about giving our surgeons greater precision, control, and flexibility to perform complex procedures with enhanced accuracy. The Da Vinci XI system allows our expert surgeons to use minimally invasive techniques that often result in smaller incisions, less discomfort, and faster recoveries for patients.
While the technology aids in the process, it’s the experience and skill of our surgeons that ultimately guide each procedure. From the console, our surgeons direct the robotic arms with careful precision, leveraging the system’s enhanced capabilities to perform even the most delicate surgeries with confidence and care.
By investing in advanced tools like the Da Vinci XI, NARMC is continuing our commitment to offering leading-edge surgical care—right here in your community—while maintaining the personal touch and expertise that our patients know and trust.
Benefits of Robotic Surgery
Robotic surgery offers many of the same advantages as traditional minimally invasive procedures, with several additional benefits for patients. When compared to open surgery, robotic-assisted surgery often means:
- Smaller incisions
- Less scarring
- Reduced pain
- Faster recovery times
- Lower risk of infection
One of the most significant advancements robotic surgeries provide is the ability to offer minimally invasive options to a wider range of patients. In cases where only open surgery would have been an option before, the enhanced precision and flexibility of robotic surgery allow many of these patients to now benefit from a less invasive approach.
Another key advantage is that robotic surgery decreases the likelihood of needing to convert to open surgery mid-procedure. In some cases, surgeons performing minimally invasive surgery may need to switch to an open approach due to unexpected complexities. With robotic surgery, this risk is significantly reduced, allowing surgeons to manage even complex cases with greater confidence and precision.
While the research into the long-term benefits of robotic surgery continues to evolve, many surgeons who use the technology believe it leads to better patient outcomes. It also allows them to perform intricate procedures that might not be possible with other surgical methods.
However, robotic surgery isn’t the right choice for every patient. Factors such as the type of procedure, as well as the patient’s age, medical history, and overall condition, will influence the best approach. Your surgeon will work with you to determine the most appropriate surgical option for your specific needs.
Why is NARMC Investing in a Robotic Surgery Program, and Why Now?
Our goal is simple: to ensure that the people of Boone County and the surrounding areas have access to the same high level of care as those in major metropolitan areas, but with the personalized, compassionate touch that only North Arkansas Regional Medical Center (NARMC) can provide. The Da Vinci XI Robotic Surgery System is a reflection of that commitment, bringing the future of surgery to our rural community—today.
For too long, patients in our region have had to travel significant distances to receive advanced surgical care. This new technology enables our expert surgeons to perform complex surgeries with greater precision, smaller incisions, and faster recovery times—all while staying close to home and family.
Healthcare is evolving, and so are the needs of our patients. People are seeking options that minimize recovery time, reduce pain, and improve outcomes. The Da Vinci XI allows us to meet those needs by offering a surgical option that not only enhances the patient experience but also expands the scope of procedures we are able to provide.
We are incredibly proud to offer this level of care to our community, combining the latest in surgical technology with the trusted, compassionate care that NARMC has been providing for generations. The Da Vinci XI system is not just an investment in technology today—it’s an investment in our patients and the future of healthcare in Boone County and beyond.

Understanding the Types of Surgeries
- Open surgery: Surgeons make one large incision to directly access the body.
- Minimally invasive surgery: Surgeons access the body through one or more tiny incisions instead of a large one. You may also hear it called "keyhole" surgery.
- Laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery: Minimally invasive surgeries in which the surgeon inserts a thin, flexible tube through a natural opening in the body, such as the mouth or rectum (for endoscopic procedures), or through one or more small incisions (for laparoscopic procedures). The surgeon then feeds tiny surgical instruments through the tube to perform the surgery.
- Robotic surgery: In this type of minimally invasive surgery, the surgeon uses robotic arms to perform the procedure. You may also hear it referred to as robot-assisted surgery.
