Emergency Crews Learn Aircraft Safety

NARMC EMS crews were proud to participate in an aircraft safety seminar recently.

On Thursday, August 22, Judy McCutcheon, Boone County Airport Manager hosted an emergency personnel safety seminar featuring Jamie Black, FAA Safety Officer and several local aircraft owner and operators.

The purpose of this training was to highlight priorities for those who arrive first at an airplane crash and also to familiarize emergency personnel with the most common aircraft seen at the Boone County airport. Several different types of planes were on site along with the their owners who were gracious enough explain the nuances of their aircraft as far as safety procedures and attributes. Emergency personnel learned how to open different types of access doors and canopies, the location and operation of fuel shut off valves and safety switches and other unique hazards like rocket propelled parachutes.

NARMC EMS, Harrison Fire and Rescue, officers from Harrison Police Department and volunteer fire fighters and first responders from Boone and several surrounding counties were present.
