NARMC Breaks Surgery Record

August 9, 2018

A record held since 2009 was recently broken at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center (NARMC). The NARMC team successfully completed 49 procedures on Friday, August 3, which broke the former record of 43 procedures completed in one day at the hospital.

The record day's procedures included orthopedics, ENT, general surgery, endoscopy and obstetrics performed by four different surgeons. In total, over 75 team members contribute to the success of these surgeries at NARMC. From the Pre-Op, Recovery, Surg Techs, Circulators, Orderlies, Secretaries, Ambulatory Treatment Room, Anesthesia, GI Lab to the Admissions, Sterile Processing and Environmental Services teams everyone came together with the surgeons, to ensure every patient’s procedure went smoothly. These surgeries represent a team effort to provide excellent care for our patients.

“It was a busy day, and everyone remained focused to make certain each patient was treated with the utmost care by the extraordinary team of surgeons, their teams and the NARMC staff. We are very proud,” Surgery Manager Lacy Huff, RN, said. “We have an amazing crew that pulls together and works hard to perform and succeed at high standards. Breaking this nine-year record would not be possible without fantastic team dynamics and a hard-working crew dedicated to our patients.”

This record contributes to the constant yearly increases NARMC has seen in surgeries, in addition to other services such as outpatient visits, clinic visits, hospice care and imaging procedures.

“We believe these visit and procedure numbers confirm those in the community trust NARMC and the care they receive as they continue to come to our facility,” said Vince Leist, NARMC president and CEO. “We appreciate that vote of confidence from the community. The entire NARMC team is extremely proud of this accomplishment and looks forward to continuing to provide the best of care close to home.”

That level of care is reinforced by NARMC’s five years of receiving a 5-star Healthgrades rating in total knee replacement surgery. A 5-star rating indicates that NARMC’s clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected when performing the procedure this procedure.
