Physical Therapy as an Alternative to Opioids

October is National Physical Therapy Month. No matter if you are young or young at heart, NARMC has therapy options for you.

When rehabilitation services are needed, due to surgery, accident, or illness, the expansive rehabilitation program found at NARMC can provide a variety of therapy options to meet the specific needs of each individual. We have a team approach to the specialized care of the patient as well as provide a variety of therapies and treatments.

In 2016, physical therapy was identified as part of the solution to the opioid epidemic by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and then US Surgeon General, Vivek H. Murthy. That year APTA launched the #ChoosePT campaign to educate the public about physical therapist services as a safe alternative to opioids for treatment of pain. Physical therapy is a safe and non-habit-forming option for managing acute and chronic pain.
